Accreditation Specialist - Laboratory

UKAS is seeking an experienced and talented individual with strong accreditation experience to provide expert technical leadership across scientific testing and calibration laboratories 

You will manage and deliver accreditation activities, support sector development, as well as work closely with government, industry and international stakeholders to ensure UKAS services remain relevant, compliant and fit for purpose.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with government, industry, internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Support management in technical and operational management, including accreditation decisions and contract reviews.
  • Monitor and improve accreditation processes, policies and technical requirements.
  • Lead and deliver accreditation assessments against ISO/IEC 17025 and UKAS requirements
  • Contribute to international committees and external affairs, promoting the UK accreditation model.
  • Support development projects and the transition of new schemes into operational delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and oversight to Assessment Managers and Assessors across the business.


Essential experience and knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017
  • Experience/knowledge of accreditation of reference materials producers and proficiency testing providers (ISO 17034 and ISO/IEC 17043) 
  • Experience/knowledge of accreditation of inspection bodies would be advantageous (ISO/IEC 17020) 

This is a key technical role offering the opportunity to influence accreditation practice nationally and internationally while supporting the continued development of UKAS services.
